About the Wine

Chateau Liversan is located in the heart of the Haut-Médoc region, where the crème de la crème of Bordeaux is found. To give you an idea of the quality of the terroir in which Liversan is located, just over 3 miles away, are you can find its First Growths classified neighbors, Château Mouton Rothschild, and Château Lafite Rothschild. 2018 Chateau Liversan Haut-Medoc is a wine that comes from an impressive terroir and powerful soils, and best of all: At an unbeatable price!

Château Liversan dates back to the 18th century with the Marquis de Latresne family, originating from the Order of Malta (a religious order founded in Jerusalem). After passing through different owners, the Château became the property of Guy de Polignac, who was part of the royal family of Monaco; as a fun fact, if you have the opportunity to visit, you will still find this family’s coat of arms on the main door of the Château.

Today, the Château is owned by Antoine Moueix Propriétés, one of the greatest wine dynasties in history. Antoine Moueix has more than 12 Châteaux around France. The goal of these owners when acquiring Chateau Liversan, was to promote and elevate the Château to its full potential. And they succeeded since it is currently one of the most pampered and adored Cru Bourgeois of the Haut-Médoc.

Chateau Liversan has beauty everywhere, from the vineyard to the cellar. The 123-plus acre vineyard is planted with the typical Bordeaux varieties: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. It is located in fossil-rich limestone soil. In addition, the vineyard uses environmental-friendly practices, and since 2018 it has been certified with Level 3 by the High Environmental Value (HEV). All of this results in concentrated and elegant wines that perfectly reflect the terroir.

The estate was classified as a Cru Bourgeois in 1932, which is the classification given to certain Bordeaux wines that are not in The Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855, but that are of exceptional quality (and with better prices!).

The consulting winemaker is Rockstar Stephan Derenoncourt. Derenoncourt is one of France's premier wine consultants. His clients include Domaine de Chevalier, Clos Fourtet, Clos de l'Oratoire, Chateau Pavie-Macquin, Canon-la-Gaffeliere, Smith Haut Lafitte, Brown, as well as Francis Ford Coppola's Rubicon Estate in Napa.

Aging: 12 months in French oak barrels, 25% in new barrels, 25% in one-wine barrels, 25% in two-wine barrels, and the remaining 25% in stainless steel tanks.

Tasting Notes: 50% Merlot, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot. The wine is black in color, with aromas of black fruit. Tannins are delicate and silky smooth with wonderful concentration. A well-structured and very elegant wine. Pair this wine with game, lamb, or veal.

Reviews

Blueberry and cherry with some walnut and lavender on both the nose and palate. Medium to full body, creamy tannins, and a fresh, vivid finish. Very polished and crafted. ~92 James Suckling

Huge color, superb black autumn fruits nose, already ripe and succulent with natural tannins and very good depth, lots of vineyard flavors, robust yet elegant. ~92 Steven Spurrier.
