About the Wine

The story of the Zecca family dates back to 1580, when Antonio Zecca, a Neapolitan agricultural entrepreneur decided to move to Leverano, in Puglia, to continue farming this fertile land. The Zecca family played a major role in developing the Puglian wine region, which earned them a noble title status when Pope Leone LEO XIII granted the title of Count to Giuseppe Zecca.

In 1909, Giuseppe’s son released their first garage wine under a name that would soon become Conti Zecca. In 1935, he founded a winery equipped with estate of the art technology and a very modern cellar. Today, the winery is led by brothers Alcibiade, Francesco, Luciano and Mario, and for more than 5 centuries, Zecca’s family goal has remain the same: “To serve as faithful guardians and sensitive interpreters of the spirit of the place, an intriguing web of nature, history and culture of the land, which gives each of the company’s wine an unparalleled uniqueness.”

Conti Zecca’s four estates covers a total of 790 acres planted with native grapes like Negroamaro, Primitivo, Malvasia Nera and Bianca and other international varieties. The vineyards are managed with sustainable viticulture, and in respect of environmental, ethical and economic sustainability.

“Liranu” is the dialectal name of Leverano, town where 5 centuries ago the Zecca family settled and where the winery was built.

Negroamaro, also known as Italy’s “dark beauty” is one of Puglia’s main red varieties. This powerful dark grape delivers intense rustic wines that combine perfume and earthiness, resulting in rich, ripe, intense wines. Liranu is the perfect bottle for wine lovers who are looking for a deep, rich wine with a strong but elegant taste.

Tasting Notes: 100% Negroamaro. Beautiful aromas of red fruits like berries, cherries, and strawberries, soft and harmonious ripe tannins. The palate is rich, intense and well structured. Impress your friends at the next dinner or drinking party!
