About the Wine

If you want the best wines, go for Rivesaltes. Rivesaltes is one of the great sweet wines of the world. Produced in the Languedoc Roussillon region of SW France, these wines live for decades since they are fortified. They can be produced from both white and red grapes, although Grenache Noir, Grenache Blanc, Grenache Gris, Muscat, Macabeu, and Malvasia prevail in the region. The wines are sweetened only with the natural grape sugars present at harvest. For this reason they are called Vin Doux Naturel.

These special wines make fantastic birth year gifts. Imagine drinking a wine born in the same year as you! But, they are also a perfect way to travel in time. These wines are like time capsules from another era. If you listen and taste carefully, these wines often have amazing stories to tell.

Inquire about other birth year wines; we have many vintages available.

Blend: 70% Grenache Noir / rest blend of Grenache Blanc, Gris and Maccabeo

Reviews

The 1947 Rivesaltes has a slightly deeper, burnished color than the 1948. It has a very complex bouquet with dried honey, quince and a light seaweed/peaty aroma that becomes more floral as it opens in the glass. The palate is very well balanced with a viscous opening: marmalade, brown spices, a touch of toffee and a very precise and focused finish with less sucrosity than the 1949. This is an outstanding Rivesaltes, one of the best that I have tasted. Tasted June 2017. ~95WA Neal Martin
