About the Wine

This wine is all about the pure expression of Moscato di Sennori from Romangia in Sardegna. With virtually no sulfur additions, an organic and Biodynamic growing regime, this estate wants you to taste exactly what they are putting out, and with good reason. At a decade of age, this wine is ready to impress.

The father and son winemaking team, work the vineyards by hand and manage to showcase the exact amount of passion for their product in each and every bottle. The Moscadeddu is grown from an ancient Muscato cultivar that has been present in Sardegna for an extremely long period of time. This bottle holds a magnifying glass on a piece of history-making wine from an ancient grape in a classic, natural fashion.

This estate receives nothing but praise from the Wine Advocate: "Alessandro Dettori makes some of the most unique and compelling wines in Sardinia. Minuscule yields from old vineyards, biodynamic farming and a non-interventionalist approach in the cellar form the backbone of Dettori’s philosophy. The wines are made with natural yeasts and are neither fined nor filtered prior to bottling. At their best, these are profound wines, but they are also totally natural. At times the alcohol levels are high and the wines, which contain very low sulfites, can be fragile. Still, readers seeking to discover the heights of Sardinian oenology owe it to themselves to experience the wines of Alessandro Dettori."

Tasting Notes: It has an amber-like color and nuttiness due to the natural winemaking process which allows a light oxidization. The nose is intense with apricots, dry grapes, and honey. The mouth is a perfect integration of sweetness and acidity with notes of toasted hazelnut, honey, pan brioche, apricots peaches, and plum but also some white pepper and rosemary. The finish is long. A “vino da meditazione” as they say in Italy (literally meditation wine), this wine pairs well with sheeps milk cheeses, olives, and nuts.

Reviews

Medium yellow. Musky aromas of grapefruit and crushed rock are accented by ginger and peppery herbs. Shows a denser, much drier impression on entry than the 2012 Moscadeddu, then turns broad but austere in the middle and on the back end, with white peach fruit overshadowed by lingering notes of spices and earth. A bitter note on the finish may not be to everyone’s liking. ~90 Vinous Media (v. 2012)
