About the Wine

Château Haut Barrail, formerly named “La Maison de la Bernède” has been producing oustanding wines for more than 7 centuries.

This stunningly beautiful estate is located in Bégadan, the northernmost area for the Medoc. It’s placed in an outstanding terroir composed of clay-calcareous soils, where the 37-acre vineyard, is exclusively planted with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

Since 1987, this Château is owned by the Cyril family. This family of vignerons has represented enormous changes and improvements to the estate. Cyril Gillet, owner and winemaker, has implemented respectful practices onto the vineyard, and he has equipped the cellar with state-of-the art technology, always preserving the typical character of the Médoc Cru Bourgeois and the traditions of the region.

2012 Chateau Haut Barrail Medoc Cru Bourgeois was born in a very classic 92-point vintage for the Left Bank. This cuvée is crafted with the oldest Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot vines from the vineyard, averaging 50-years old. The result is a fine and elegant, seductive wine, that perfectly reflects the greatness of the Medoc, and best part... its ready to drink TODAY!

Aging: 12 months in new French oak barrels.

Tasting Notes: 70 % Merlot, 30 % Cabernet Sauvignon. Intense garnet color. It shows very fine and elegant aromas of ripe fruit and toasted almonds. The palate is supple and fruity attack, with beautiful aromatic persistence and a long length.
