About the Wine

Just across the Gironde from the Médoc, the region appellation that holds 4 of the 5 Bordeaux 1st Growths, is the beautiful Blaye Cotes de Bordeaux.

Blaye has a lot of history, in fact, the vines were first planted in this region before any of their neighbor the Médoc. Blaye's wines gained a great reputation among the Romans. Despite the ups and downs that this region has had, today, Blaye has achieved recognition for the quality of its wines and best of all, at an affordable price!

Blaye-Côtes de Bordeaux is located on the Right Bank and is one of the 4 appellations that span the Côtes de Bordeaux, along with Cadillac, Castillon and Francs. The Blaye terroir is made up of clay dense soils over limestone. This allows the wines to be made mainly from red grapes like Merlot, followed by Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc and white ones like Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Muscadelle.

The wines from Blaye are lovely and easy to drink. The vintage 2015 was an incredibly good vintage for all Bordeaux. In fact, some Châteaux from the Right Bank produced their best wines so far. Elegant, fresh, and fruity wines with aging potential were the result of the year 2015.

Tasting Notes:Red Wine. Fresh aromas of blackberries, plum and cassis, notes of vanilla. On the palate, it has a smooth entrance and soft elegant tannins. Pair this wine with a nice and rich veal burger!

Reviews

This ripe wine comes from a small appellation at the mouth of the Dordogne. Still young and bursting with black fruits, it is already balanced and well on the way to becoming generous and fruity. It will be ready from 2023. ~ 90 Wine Enthusiast. (2019 Vintage)
