About the Wine

“Rioja is a great choice for people who enjoy both structure and elegance.”~James Suckling

If you want to experience Riojan culture at its best, Ollauri is the town you have to visit. Located in the heart of Rioja Alta, this region is home to some of the best-known wineries in Rioja, including Marqués de Teran. If you want to know why Rioja wines are so prized for their quality and value, here's a prime example.

This winery adopted its name from the Marques de Teran palace; however, this old and traditional palace has nothing to do with the modern winery. Marques de Teran has an innovative and impressive architecture. In 2021, it was named as one of the 7 wonders of wine architecture in Spain by Guía Peñin.

80% of the surface of the winery is built into a hill. The winery uses gravity flow to receive and transport the grapes and wine in the lightest way possible. The commitment to quality and technology is of the highest magnitude. It was the first European winery to use geothermal energy as a source of energy; this allows for more conscious and sustainable viticulture.

This wine is bottled unfiltered, so expect a light sediment. The winery insisted on capturing the essence of the fruit in the bottle, so the wine is fresh as possible.

2017 Marques De Teran Seleccion Especial is an amazing example of the wonders that Rioja can achieve. This is a beautiful, structured, and delicious red wine with amazing aging potential.

Tasting Notes: Red ripe fruit aromas that remind the grape harvest, well balanced with toasted notes and spices from the new oak. Long, structured, and creamy mouth with sweet and ripe tannins that leave a long, plenty, and complex taste. Pair this wine with spicy dishes, red meats, and cheese.
