About the Wine

Schrader RBS is Napa Cabernet turned up to full volume. This wine is made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in 100% new and incredibly rare Darnajou Barrels, and all the fruit is sourced from one of Napa's most iconic vineyards, Beckstoffer To Kalon. Schrader is putting everything they have into this very small production Cabernet.

The Schrader name is synonymous with outstanding, high-scoring Napa Valley Cabernet that is very limited and very expensive. Winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown has made so many 100 pt and near perfect wines, we've lost count.

  • A collectible, investment-worthy wine
  • A benchmark Napa Cabernet that is the envy of every collector

100% Cabernet Sauvignon in Darnajou French oak barrels

There is not much to be said about Schrader that hasn't already made headlines. Fred Schrader, an art and antiquity trader, attended the Napa Valley wine auction in the late 90's. He fell in love with Napa and then met Andy Beckstoffer and Thomas Rivers Brown. From that time, they sourced outstanding fruit from the To Kalon vineyard and set the wine world ablaze with some of the most sought after, collectable and delicious Napa Valley Cabernets ever created.

Ageing: 20 Months in 100% New French Oak

Tasting Notes:  Luxurious aromas of blueberry crème brûlée, mixed black and blue fruit mélange, and red cherries burst from the glass with an enticing hint of lightly grilled brioche bread. The ripe fruit flavors dance along the palate and intertwine with flavors of roasted coffee and salted churned butter. The wine’s ample fruit focus is balanced by supple, velvety tannins that give way to an astonishingly silky-smooth finish.

Reviews

A barrel sample, the opaque purple-black colored 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon RBS Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard needs a fair bit of swirling to unlock vibrant notes of dark chocolate-covered cherries, crème de cassis and blueberry preserves, plus suggestions of menthol, fertile loam, licorice and dusty soil. The full-bodied palate is rich and decadent, delivering velvety tannins and soft acidity with loads of spicy sparks coming through on the finish. 96-98 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon RBS displays a more elegant, seamless style, offering full-bodied aromas and flavors of cassis and black raspberries as well tobacco, violets, and Christmas spice. It’s incredibly complex and layered yet lacks a touch of the ”wow” factor found in the other cuvées. Don’t kid yourself, though – this is still a great wine, and I suspect the rating will seem low once this is bottled. ~95-97 Jeb Dunnuck
