About the Wine

If you want the best wines, go for Rivesaltes. Rivesaltes is one of the great sweet wines of the world. Produced in the Languedoc Roussillon region of SW France, these wines live for decades since they are fortified. They can be produced from both white and red grapes, although Grenache Noir, Grenache Blanc, Grenache Gris, Muscat, Macabeu, and Malvasia prevail in the region. The wines are sweetened only with the natural grape sugars present at harvest. For this reason they are called Vin Doux Naturel.

These special wines make fantastic birth year gifts. Imagine drinking a wine born in the same year as you! But, they are also a perfect way to travel in time. These wines are like time capsules from another era. If you listen and taste carefully, these wines often have amazing stories to tell.

Inquire about other birth year wines; we have many vintages available.

Blend: 70% Grenache Noir / rest blend of Grenache Blanc, Gris and Maccabeo

Reviews

The 1952 Rivesaltes from Domaine La Sobilane has a lucid amber color with a green tint on the rim. The nose is backward, like the 1953, quite resinous with waxy scents, woodbines and embers. The palate has more depth than the 1953 with light tannin, a fine bead of acidity, pretty quince and marmalade notes, although I would have liked more viscosity and horsepower on the linear finish. It has an easy-drinking nature, unlike some of its peers, so it would form a perfect introduction to the delight of mature vin doux naturel. Tasted June 2017. ~WA
