About the Wine

If you want to know how good 2018 Bordeaux is, buy this wine. Antonio Galloni writes this wine, "captures all the best the vintage has to offer."

Peter Kwok, born in Vietnam, was for many years a renowned banker and finances expert in China. He arrived and established in France due to his love and passion for this culture and brought his children with him.

Peter managed to see his great love for France materialize in form of a 750ml bottle. He believes that with a combination of excellent terroir, the right equipment, the best workers and tons of patience, an exceptional wine can be made. And we agree!

Château Haut Brisson was the first vineyard to belong to the prestigious group: Vignobles K from Peter Kwok and his sons Elaine, Karen and Howard. Located on the Right Bank of Bordeaux in the Saint-Emillion Grand Cru appellation, Château Haut-Brisson has a great terroir with soils made of clay and limestone, fine brown sands and gravel of coarse sands.

Vignobles K is a family business established in 2014 and its formed by 7 vineyards located in some of the best Bordeaux appellations: Saint-Emilion, Pomerol, Lalande-de-Pomerol, Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux. Not bad!

The winemaker is a born and raised Basque named Jerome Aguirre. He began his winemaking experience in his homeland and worked with Jean-Claude Berrouet's (former winemaker at Château Petrus and Château Trotanoy).

Jerome has enological experience in Australia and in some of the best Bordeaux appellations. He also participated in the 2010 vintage of Chateau La Violette which had 100 pts. From the Wine Advocate. Since 2012 he has been part of Peter Kwok's team as Chief Winemaker and in addition to this, he has his own family estate called Château Haut Musset in Lalande-de-Pomerol.

Aging: 40% New French oak barrels, 20% in second use for 15 months.

Reviews

This is a very powerful and structured Haut-Brisson, showing incredible depth and richness. Full-bodied and layered with incredible depth and purity. Layers of fruit and tannin. Best ever. ~96 James Suckling

The deep, saturated purple/plum-colored 2018 Château Haut Brisson checks in as a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc from a 22-hectare vineyard of fine gravelly and quartz-rich soils sit- ting on top of deep clay. Still aging in 35% new French oak, this rich, medium to full-bodied Saint- Émilion offers a nicely layered and beautifully balanced style as well as complex notes of blue and black fruits, spice box, blood orange, and violets. It has an exotic edge, ample mid-palate depth, and the sexy yet pure style of the vintage. It’s a smoking good Saint-Émilion to drink any time over the coming two decades. ~95 Jeb Dunnuck

The 2018 Haut Brisson is an absolutely gorgeous wine. Radiant and plush, with striking fruit density, the 2018 captures all the best the vintage has to offer. Dark cherry, plum, mocha, chocolate, dried flowers and menthol build in a creamy, sensual Saint-Émilion loaded with near and medium-term appeal. Haut Brisson is especially fine in 2018. The blend is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, with new oak at 35%. Tasted three times. ~93 Antonio Galloni

It has a deep garnet-purple color and comes charging out of the glass with baked black cherries, warm blueberries and preserved plums with touches of pencil shavings, kirsch and chargrilled meat plus a waft of Indian spices. Full-bodied, the generously fruited palate has a lovely plush texture and just enough freshness, finishing with a menthol lift. ~92 Lisa Perrotti-Brown (WA)
