About the Wine

“One wine that shines particularly bright in the Veneto is the mighty Amarone, where “it is king,” made from only the best varietals in the region.” ~ Robert Parker.

San Rustico is a classic winery in the heart of Valpolicella that dates before 1870. Founder, Luigi Campagnola was a Rockstar in the wine industry, he was a globally recognized and admired winemaker. Luckily for us, he was able to transmit his wisdom and passion for wine to his children and so on. Today Marco and Enrico Campagnola (Luigi’s great-grandsons) are the people responsible for the outstanding wines produced in San Rustico.

Marco is the winemaker and his brother Enrico, the agronomist. They both make the perfect team taking care of every single detail from vineyard to the winery, producing impressive and exquisite wines that are adored by savvy wine drinkers and some of the world's leading wine critics!

The 50+ acre vineyard is nestled between the Valgatara and Marano hills. The fruit for the 2013 San Rustico Amarone della Valpolicella Classico comes from Marano, in the Valpoliccella Classica. The terroir of this region is simply beautiful, the soils are rich in calcium and iron and composed of a dry stone called Marogne.

2013 San Rustico Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is produced with special care, where the harvest -which is manual and highly selective- is carried out in October, and later, the fruit is set to dry for 3 months before being vinified. The wine goes through 30 months in Slovenian and French barrels, and 18 months in French Oak barrels.

Tasting Notes: Corvina, Rondinella, Molinara. Deep garnet color. Lightly spicy with a sensation of almonds, cherries, and dry plumes. Warm, full-bodied, and velvety aftertaste. This wine pairs excellent with game or venison, grilled or braised meat, and very old cheeses.
