About the Wine

Today, the 4th generation leads the charge as they build upon the Tommassi family legacy, which has been producing outstanding wine since 1902. The 163 acres of rich volcanic soil that defines the Poggio al Tufo estate was acquired in 1997. Since then, the Tommasi family has been unitizing the influence of the volcanic soil and Mediterranean breeze to cultivate select varieties promising quality and excellence in all of their wines, and critics agree!

The 2015 Poggio al Tufo Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the Rompicollo vineyard in Pitigliano, a town near the Tuscan coast known for its volcanic soil which contains a high concentration of tufo, a particular type of volcanic rock, that imparts layers of complexity to the wine. The vineyard benefits from southern exposure which benefits allowing the grapes to maximize their physiological ripeness. This wine is a symphony of dark fruits and earthy aromas perfectly harmonized for your enjoyment!

Aging: 12 months of maturation in Slavonian oak barrels

Tasting notes: The wine is a deep ruby red and opens with complex aromas of blackberry jam, black pepper, licorice, vanilla, and balsamic herbs. The palate is enveloping and full-bodied, with velvety tannins integrated with a pleasant freshness.
