    About the Wine

“The 2015 vintage is a historical year for Brunello and nobody should miss it.”

With those words from James Suckling’s Vintage Report and the accolades of many other respected wine critics, the 2015 Brunello di Montalcino’s became one of the Tuscan wine’s most collectible vintages. Upon their first release, we predicted the vintage would mostly sell out within 9 to 10 months after its release. And, we were right. The majority of the 2015 Brunellos are already in the cellars of wine collectors and wine lovers.

But not the 2015 Bonacchi Molino del Piano Brunello di Montalcino. At least not yet.

Bonacchi is a family-owned winery with three generations of experience making the finest wines in Tuscany. The winemaker, Ivan Misuri, won the Giulio Gambelli Prize in 2020, one of the most prestigious honors given to a  winemaker under 40, whose wine has been able to better interpret the spirit and vision of Giulio Gambelli, who was known as the Grand Master of Sangiovese.”

In Misuri's hands, the Sangiovese Grosso grapes used in this 2015 Brunello express red fruits, earthy minerals, and savory herbs, plus a balance of tannins and brisk acids that will allow this wine to age for decades. It’s everything you want a Brunello to be.

Tasting Notes: Intense, clean, characterized by spicy notes reminiscent of berries jam and pleasant shades of vanilla. A buttery scent inebriates the nose. Majestic on the palate, with a round and velvety body. Persistent tannins and balanced acidity.

    Reviews

I like the cherry and peach character to this with a hint of raw meat. Medium to full body, creamy tannins and a flavorful finish. Drink or hold. ~93 Points, James Suckling.

The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Molino del Piano bristles with earthy minerals, savory herbs, and animal tones, with sour cherry and hints of dried strawberries in the background. On the palate, soft textures give way to a zesty expression, as brisk acids energize a mix of spiced cherry, and inner florals, with earthy mineral tones forming toward the finale. The finish is long and spicy, resonating on floral-laced red fruits and a buzz of lingering acids. The 2015 Molino del Piano is a bit beastly, like an unruly teenager, but I must admit that I like it quite a bit.~93 Points, Vinous Media.
