About the Wine

Perfectly aged Saint Emilion isn't always easy to come by, particularly when it was made in such a high-profile vintage like 2010. Haut-Brisson is a small chateau that sits on the highly desirable limestone plateau of Saint-Emilion. With old vines and a well-maintained property, the wines from this estate are gracefully ageing beauties, and this one is ready to go today!

Since 1997 the Chateau has been operated by Vignobles K, owned by Peter Kwok. Peter, born in Vietnam, was for many years a renowned banker and finances expert in China. Peter managed to see his great love for France materialize in form of a 750ml bottle. He believes that with a combination of excellent terroir, the right equipment, the best workers and tons of patience, an exceptional wine can be made.

Vignobles K is a family business established in 2014 and its formed by 7 vineyards located in some of the best Bordeaux appellations: Saint-Emilion, Pomerol, Lalande-de-Pomerol, Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux. Not bad!

The winemaker is a born and raised Basque named Jerome Aguirre. He began his winemaking experience in his homeland and worked with Jean-Claude Berrouet's (former winemaker at Château Petrus and Château Trotanoy).

Tasting Notes: 90% Merlot 10% Cabernet Franc. An intense nose with black fruit and floral aromas of orange blossom. The wood is still present but shows its charming side. In the mouth the attack is fruity on the palate with beautiful hints of strawberry jam. The wine presents a very nice concentration, perfectly controlled, with silky tannins still present at this point but without harshness. A good balance between sweetness and power, the wood is well-integrated. The finish has considerable fruit with a very light minerality.

Reviews

Floral nose with nice red fruit like raspberries and crushed strawberries. Some cocoa powder and vanilla. Sweet refined fruit on the palate with good body and a beautiful texture. Long and elegant with a beautiful juicy acidity. Beautiful depth of fruit. Better in 2016. ~ 92 James Suckling

The 2010 Haut-Brisson displays a sweeter, more forward and evolved personality compared to the Reserve, with less oak but lots of fleshy black currant and kirsch-like fruit intermixed with some lavender, licorice, and a touch of spice box. The wine is medium to full-bodied, round and ideal for drinking over the next decade or more. ~ 90 Robert Parker
