About The Wine

“Powerful, pointed, and moderately aromatic, this most of all has plenty of acidity to lift the fruit and slam it back home.” ~Robert Parker.

Quinta do Vale is Antónia Adelaide Ferreira's dream come true. Antónia, who was born into a family of wine producers, was the owner of the largest and most important wine estate in the entire Douro region. Antónia was a revolutionary woman for her time, a strong woman, with dreams, entrepreneurial spirit, and a vision, which in 1877 led her to acquire the modest amount of 700 acres in the Vila Nova de Foz Côa region, thus beginning, what we know today as Quinta do Vale.

Since its origins, Quinta do Vale has remained in the same family. In 1970, Francisco Javier de Olazabal (Antónia’s great-great-great-grandson) became the director of this ambitious project, and some years later, he shared the responsibility with his children. His son Francisco is the current winemaker of the winery.

Today, Quinta do Vale’s vineyard is made up of almost 250 acres, where the climatic conditions and the land made up of schist, granite, and alluvial soils, allow the result of exquisite and original wines.

Quinta do Vale shows hard work, perfectionism, and love for the land. The wines are the great result of dedication, years of research, and hard work. The winery is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, and it also has inspiring architecture, worth visiting!

2018 Quinta do Vale Meandro Douro White is a fresh wine with lively and crisp acidity. It goes through a period of 6 months on its lees, which gives it a unique elegance. This wine expresses wonderfully the terroir of the Vila Nova de Foz Côa region.

Tasting Notes: 60% Rabigato and 40% Arinto. Intense greenish color. It has the vibrant acidity of Arinto combined with the lively fruit of the Rabigato. The mouth surprises for its density and freshness. Pair this wine with seafood, fish, or cold cuts.

Reviews

“The 2018 Branco "Meandro" is a 60/40 blend of Rabigato and Arinto, unoaked and coming in at 12% alcohol (a drop from last year, a common theme in 2018s vs. 2017s). It was bottled just a few weeks before this tasting, but it seemed in great shape. Powerful, pointed and moderately aromatic, this most of all has plenty of acidity to lift the fruit and slam it back home. In its youth, this energetic wine is perfectly positioned as a summer white, but it does need just a little more expressiveness. Considering how recently it was bottled, it should show better by the time this report comes out. It should age rather well. It's a nice value.” ~90 Points, Wine Advocate.
