About the Wine

Montevetrano takes its name from a medieval castle that dates to Roman times. A former property of the French Bourbons, the estate itself was the inspiration for this blend of French varietals with the Campanian king of red grapes - Aglianico. Pleasing scores of wine lovers around the world with its distinctive character and rich spectrum of flavors, Montevetrano is one of the most sought-after wines from Italy.

Montevetrano has a recognizable style, characterized by complexity, like the territory in which it is born with its variety of perfumes and colors. It is a wine with a strong persistence, that benefits from the influence of the sea and a mild climate. The vineyard is protected by the Picentini Mountains, which form like a crown around the property. Thanks to a careful and respectful processing it the Montevetrano continues to mature in bottles for fifteen or twenty years. According to the tasting made during the years, the forecasts, and experts' opinions on the various vintages, Montevetrano guarantees great longevity.

Aging: 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Aglianico, 20% Merlot

Tasting Notes:Deep ruby-red in color, aromas of blackberries and spices complement undertones of black currants, licorice, tobacco, earth, and leather. On the palate, Montevetrano is full-bodied, yet elegant with fine-grained tannins and a rich, silky texture.

Reviews

Aromas and flavors of blackberries and blueberries with licorice and black pepper. Medium to full body. Chewy, yet refined and balance. Another two or three years of bottle age would bring it more together. ~96 James Suckling

Fully saturated ruby-purple. Gunpowder green tea, flint, cocoa, coffee, blueberry, and blackberry jam on the knockout nose. Smooth, elegant, rich, and round, this big, dense wine has a massive but refined presence, thanks to its uncanny, lovely sugar/acid/tannin balance. Finishes long with lingering concentration and density, not to mention a multilayered appeal that is hard to deny. Very well done. ~95 Antonio Galloni
