About the Wine

Owned by Guillaume et Thibaud Secret, Chateau La Chandelliere has been recognized as a Cru Bourgeois since 1982.

The earliest evidence of this estate is dated back to the 1870's. It went through a downtime prior to the Secret family purchasing the property in 1970. With a little elbow grease, the Secret's were able to produce quality wine that would eventually be deemed, "Cru Bourgeois". A title the estate has proudly worn since 1979. The wines today are powerful, and structurally sound. 2015 was a warm vintage, which lead to many exceptional wines. The 2015 Chateau La Chandelliere Medoc is a perfect introduction to left bank Bordeaux.

2015 was an extremely dry vintage with Mother Nature smiling down at exactly the right moment. Bringing rains and leading to an immaculate harvest of ripe and lush reds. 2015 earned a vintage rating of 94 points from Wine Advocate.

Tasting Notes:Red Wine. A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot and aged in 33% new oak for 12 months. This is a complex wine that offers firm tannins and rich fruit. It has weight, density, and a strong sense of ripeness. With balance and depth, it’s a wine with good aging potential.

Reviews

Assertive toasty/cedary oak with ripe dark berries in behind. The palate has a sturdy core of powerful tannins and plenty of extract. Give this time. Try around 2022. ~92 James Suckling

A little gem of a Cru Bourgeois, the 2015 Château La Chandelliere (65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc) is a medium-bodied, elegant red offering notes of raspberries, spring flowers, spice and plenty of leafy herbs. It has good acidity, fine tannin, and surprising elegance, all of which make it a joy to drink. I suspect it will keep for 5-8 years. Tasted twice. ~ J. Dunnuck
