About the Wine

Refosco or "Dark Grape" refers to a family of red grapes indigenous to Venice and neighboring areas such as Friuli, Gavi, Trentino, Istria, and Carso. And as their name suggests, they result in deep-colored, explosive, tannic, and powerful wines. If this wine was a dessert, it would definitely be a three-chocolate cake you can't have just one slice from.

The history of Reguta winery began in the late 1920s, with Ettore's dream of becoming a farmer, planting vineyards and fruit trees in the charming city of Verona. A few years later, that dream was moved to Friuli, where to date Reguta’s more the +600 acres of planted vineyards are located.

This winery is located in Northeast Italy, just over 6 miles from the Adriatic Sea. This region is well-known for producing vibrant and exciting wines. Wine Spectator stated that “Northeastern Italy makes fabulously fresh wines from a number of different grapes.”

Thanks to the proximity to the sea, the vines from Reguta benefit from a fresh sea breeze and soils rich in clay that is composed mostly of mineral salts. These terroir conditions make Friuli the ideal region for the vine to thrive. The Reguta vineyard is planted with native grapes such as Refosco, Friulano, Pignolo, Ribolla Gialla or Verduzzo, and some international varieties too.

The work behind the wines from Reguta is admirable, starting in the vineyard, which is managed with extra special care and 100% manually, and in the winery, equipped with state-of-the-art technology to guarantee the high quality of all wines.

Tasting Notes: 100% Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso. Intense and deep aromas of red and dark fruits like cherry and blackberry along with a floral sensation of violates. On the palate, it is powerful with a long finish. Pair this wine with beef, goat, or lamb.
