About the Wine

"Showing beautifully, the 2000 Château Beau-Sejour Bécot is fully in its prime drink window. This is prime, Grade-A Saint-Emilion magic that's drinking at point yet has another 10-15 years of life. ~ Jeb Dunnuck.

Just over half a mile away (or a 15-minute walk) from world-renowned Premier Grand Cru Château Ausone, is located the magnificent Château Beau-Sejour Becot,an outstanding Premier Grand Crus Classé B.

The first records of this legendary estate date back more than two thousand years. This Château, which has been owned by different important people and monks for the period, is in the hands of the Becot family since 1929. Today, Juliette Becot y Julien Barthe are the proud owners of this legendary estate.

For more than 40 years, iconic winemaker Michel Rolland was the consultant here. Rolland was the winemaker during the 2000’s amazing vintage. Later, he transferred all this expertise to Thomas Duclos, the new wine consultant since 2018.

Chateau Beau-Sejour Becot’s 54-acre vineyard is planted mainly with the two Queens in Saint-Emilion: Merlot and Cab Franc, with a little percentage of Cab Sauvignon. These old vines, some of them 75 years, are placed on the limestone plateau of Saint Emilion. This beautiful terroir composed of clay that has deep, limestone soils, is the canvas to produce this outstanding Saint-Emilion.

Just like Jeb Dunnuck said, today and after 22 years, this wine is "fully in its prime drink window." 2000 was an amazing vintage that delivered wines with enormous age-ability. Wine Advocate blessed this year with 96 points and Vinous Media said that the best Saint-Emilion's are "opulent and harmonious."

Aging: 18 months in 55% new French oak barrels.

Reviews

Showing beautifully, the 2000 Château Beau-Sejour Bécot is fully in its prime drink window and offers brilliant aromatics of red and black fruits, cedar pencil, tobacco leaf, truffle, and licorice. Full-bodied on the palate, it has a deep, concentrated mid-palate, resolved tannins, beautiful overall balance, and a great finish. This is prime, Grade-A Saint-Emilion magic that's drinking at point yet has another 10-15 years of life. ~95 Jeb Dunnuck.

The Becots, Gérard and Dominique, have produced a stylish, modern wine that powers black, sweet fruits through the deceptively soft tannins. Tarry flavors and layers of new wood give the wine a new world character. How long it will last is open to question at this stage. It is certainly developing quickly. ~92 Wine Enthusiast.

Saturated medium ruby. Perfumed, precise aromas of blackberry, violet, graphite, and sexy oak. Sweet, dense, and seamless; a thick wine with terrific verve, thanks to juicy acidity and underlying minerality. Black fruit, violet, and bitter chocolate flavors show lovely clarity. Finishes sweet and long, with ripe tannins coating the teeth. A superb vintage for this estate. ~92 Vinous Media.

This full-bodied, modern-styled St.-Emilion offers a sensational perfume of smoky barbecue, jammy black currants, kirsch, licorice, and a touch of pain grille. Fleshy, savory, and full-bodied, it has shed much of its tannin, but still possesses abundant structure. It is an intense, modern-styled, mouth-filling, sumptuous, attention-getting wine to drink over the next decade. ~92 Robert Parker.
