About the Wine

Right in the heart of the Langhe region in Pedmont, in the San Rocco Seno d'Elvio municipality, is located Adriano Marco e Vittorio Winery. A fascinating family winery that dates to the 20th century.

Today, after more than 100 years, this family boutique winery is finally getting the recognition it deserves. Forbes talk about this winery in its article called “Most underrated producers of Barbaresco,” stating that “thisproducer is making top-rated wines that aren’t as well-known as they should be.” And Wine Enthusiast has featured Adriano’s wines on several occasions on their “Top 100 Wines of the Year” lists.

The estate is composed of more than 100 acres, where 70 of them are planted with Nebbiolo y Barbaresco, Barbera, Dolcetto, Freisa, Sauvignon Blanc and Moscato. The winery is completely committed to the environment, using sustainable practices in the vineyard and in the cellar. Since 2010, they are organic and sustainable certified by the Green Experience company.

2017 Adriano Marco e Vittorio Barbaresco comes from the Basarin. Basarin is precisely the name of the Additional Geographical Mention (also referred to as cru or growth.) This region is located in the most fascinating hills of the Langhe. This place is well known as one of the best-suited regions for Nebbiolo.

2017 was a good year for Piedmont. Wine Spectator blessed this year with a 94-point review, stating that “Barbarescos are fresh and balanced, evoking red fruit flavors.”

Aging: 12 months in French oak barrels.

Tasting Notes: 100% Nebbiolo.  Violet and rose aromas with notes of spices, licorice, jam. Dry and aristocratic with pleasing, harmonious tannins; elegantly muscular, revealing great texture. Pair this wine with game, wild board, truffle pasta.

Reviews

Fragrant blue flower, menthol and woodland berry aromas appear in the glass. On the focused, medium-bodied palate, tightly wound, close-grained tannins surround sour cherry, blood orange and star anise. Give it a few more years to fully develop. Drink 2023–2029. ~93 Points, Wine Enthusiast.

A mix of black currant, camphor, earth, iron and underbrush flavors marks this brooding red. Well-structured, balanced and moderately long, if still compact on the finish. Best from 2023 through 2042. 900 cases made, 360 cases imported. ~92 Points, Wine Spectator.

The nose is aromatic and offers a fine concentration and power. It reveals notes of garriguette strawberry, blackberry, small notes of cherry associated with fine touches of lilac, violet as well as a subtle hint of vanilla. The palate is fruity, well-balanced and offers a juicy/finely acidulous frame, gourmandize and a good definition. On the palate this wine expresses notes of fleshy raspberry, blackberry, small notes of vanilla, toasted and a discreet hint of nutmeg. ~90 Points, VertdeVin.
