About the Wine

This wine is about as close to immortal as a new world wine can get. Sparkman has been producing this since 2006 and not a single vintage is even close to reaching the end of its optimal drinking window. If you are in to a hedonistic red that you want to drink right this second, then this may just be your best bet. On the other hand, if you want a wine that you can throw in your cellar, well indefinitely, that again you are in luck here!

Sparkman Cellars started as a family venture with husband and wife team Kelly and Chris Sparkman, venturing into an industry that would allow them to raise their children. Now, nearly twenty years later, the winery has really hit stride and is producing the best wine they ever have. By all means, this winery is still very boutique in size, but don't let that fool you, this wine is fantastic.

Aging22 Months, 77% new French oak, 11% new American oak

Tasting Notes: 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit VerdotOnce again a brawny monster with a silky soul, Kingpin’s leads with a nose of black currants, black cherry, black plum, earth, cigar box and cedar. Fine tannins frame all manner of black fruits, dark chocolate, baking spices and crushed rock. Massive yet approachable, this beautifully balanced cabernet sauvignon will evolve for decades.

Reviews

Purity and focus to this red with blackcurrant, chocolate and hazelnut aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, yet tight and refined with a soft, smooth and creamy texture and a flavorful finish. 93% cabernet sauvignon and 7% petit verdot. Drink or hold.  ~95 James Suckling
