About The Wine

“Nothing says Australian wine like Shiraz. The luscious fruit, chocolatey oak, and powerful tannins of this warming, hug-in-a-glass wine have played a crucial role in cementing Australia’s global wine reputation.” ~Wine Enthusiast.

It is well known that Shiraz is one of Australia's iconic grapes, especially in the Barossa Valley where it is the undisputed king…and Tarrawatta is its kingdom.

Tarrawatta Winery has a privileged location, right at the foot of the beautiful Barossa Mountain range; this area is famous for producing some of the best red wines, not only in the country but in the world.

Since 2017, Tarrawatta is property of the same owners as Chateau le Bon Pasteur in Pomerol and Finca Sloan in Napa Valley, this can give you an idea of this winery's indisputable quality standards.

Craig Isbel is the mastermind behind these magnificent and powerful wines, he has worked alongside Nick to create these drinkable pieces of art. Nick Radford is also a figurehead in the Australian wine industry and has worked for wineries such as Penfolds and Hardys.

2018 Tarrawatta Ambervale Shiraz comes from the Ambervale vineyard, a place with an outstanding terroir that is made up of red, rocky soils and has earned its reputation for producing some of the strongest and most structured Shiraz in all of the Barossa Valley.

2018 was an extraordinary year for Barossa. Wine Spectator said: “Yields were down, but the quality is high, with richer wines, the result of a long growing season”

Aging: 23 months in new and seasoned French oak hogsheads.

Tasting Notes: 100% Shiraz. Impressive hue of deep, vibrant purple. Aromas of black fruits, licorice, coffee bean, and dark chocolate oak. It holds integrity and poise, harmonized by an even acid line and most of all, by a fine, taut frame of impeccable tannins. Pair this wine with BBQ, grilled or roasted beef or lamb, big beefy stews, or strong hard cheeses.

Reviews

I loved the 2018 Shiraz Ambervale. This is classic Shiraz done with elegance and purity as well as richness.Lots of ripe blackberry fruits, chocolate, mint, damp earth, and violet notes define the bouquet, and it's full-bodied and brilliantly balanced, with ripe tannins and notable freshness. It's a gem of a wine to enjoy over the coming 7-8 years.” ~95 Points, Jeb Dunnuck.

Very attractive aromas of spice, bark, and black truffle to the ripe blue fruit. Full-bodied, layered, and rich with lovely density and richness.Firm yet layered tannins. I like the opulence with firmness.Drinkable now, but better in a few years.” ~93 Points, James Suckling.

“Inky violet color. Powerful aromas of blackberry, cherry-cola, violet, and woodsmoke are complemented by a hint of vanilla that builds with air. Sweet, seamless, and expansive on the palate, offering sappy cassis, blackberry, cherry preserve, and licorice flavors that are supported by a core juicy acidity. Deepens and becomes spicier on the clinging finish, which features well-knit tannins and repeating florality.” ~93 Points, Vinous Media.
