About the Wine

Amarone is the rich wine of Kings from the area between Verona and Venice NE Italy. Grapes are air-dried for four months on straw mats, and then fermented. The resulting juice is raisined and sweet, and the yields are tiny. For this reason, the wine is highly prized. Extended aging for up to three years or more allows the wine to integrate and develop secondary characteristics of oak, vanilla, fig, dried fruit, leather, and baking spices. Amarone are fantastic cool weather wines with rich foods.

Tasting Notes: 70% Corvina Veronese, 20% Rondinella and 10% Molinara. Intense garnet red color. The bouquet is intense and elegant with notes of ripe fruit and spices. Smooth and full-bodied on the palate, Colle Cristi offers notes of chocolate and truffles and lots of dried fruit aromas. Ideal with red meat, roasts, game and seasoned cheeses.

Reviews

Deep red-ruby. Musky red fruits, cinnamon and bitter chocolate on the nose. Then supple and sweet, but with lovely lift and verve to the fine-grained floral flavors of red cherries and sweet spices. Brisk acids keep the finish of this medium-bodied wine firm and refreshing. Smells and tastes similar to Castellani’s Cinque Stelle Amarone. A blend of 70% Corvina, 20% Rondinella and 10% Molinara, the grapes are air-dried for four months and aged for three years in used large oak barrels and barriques. (15.5% alcohol) ~91VM

A fresh and balanced red, with a well-spiced range of wild cherry and berry fruit and licorice and dried herb notes. A tang of minerality lingers on the chewy finish. Drink now through 2025. 1,600 cases made. ~91WS
