    About the wine

Bertani’s impact on Veneto winemaking, particularly in Amarone production, is so considerable that ‘Bertani’ and ‘Amarone’ are nearly synonymous. Bertani was one of the first wineries to start producing a dry red style of Amarone, which was originally a sweet wine. Their 150+ year history is dotted with groundbreaking initiatives and royal accreditation. While respectful of their past, Bertani strives toward innovation. With their progressive technique, extensive experience, and deep respect for the tradition they provide wines of uncompromising quality time after time.

The grapes for this wine come from the Tenuta Novare vineyards at Arbizzano di Negrar, in the heart of the Valpolicella Classico area. Their 220 ha vineyards are covered with calcareous-marl soils and are devoted exclusively to the production of AmaroneAs an icon of Italian wine, Bertani combines the typicity of native grape varieties with continuous improvement in the vineyards and attention to the terroir to create these award-winning wines. Today the winery has a focus on traditional winemaking techniques, with minimal intervention in the cellar the wines are able to hone in on the pure expression of the fruit.

2016 was a great year for the Valpolicella region. Vinous Media gave this year a 95-point review saying that. "The 2016s come across as some of the most classic wines to emerge from the Veneto in some time. The 2016s are balanced, elegant, fresh, and with the structure for many years of cellaring, and with time, they will be recognized as modern-day classics."

Aging: 5 to 6 years in Slavonian oak barrels.

Tasting notes: An intense red color, with garnet nuances. Typical and marked notes of plum, cherry, and morello cherry on the nose, followed by a wide variety of tones: nuts, tea leaves, licorice, and spices. On the palate, overtones of red berry fruit, softened by velvety notes of vanilla, are in perfect balance with the acidity and tannic notes.
