Podere La Pace vineyards lie in Colline Metallifere near the lovely area of Massa Maritima, 6 miles from the coast, and just a little more than 30 miles away from the high prized Bolgheri appellation. This fairytale wine region in Tuscany is known for its contrasting landscapes, olive trees, rolling hills, and vineyards facing the stunning Gulf of Follonica.
Podere La Pace was bought in 2007 by the entrepreneur and agriculture aficionado Simone Maggioni. He is an economics graduate of Bocconi and an MBA graduate from the University of Michigan.
Podere La Pace oversees 17 acres of land. These prosperous vineyards are set in a glorified territory, inside a sheltered micro-climate of the hot Mediterranean, which benefits from its optimal location of southeast-facing slope exposition. Chalky and clay soils play a crucial role in this area. These soil conditions are excellent for the international grape varieties like Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Chardonnay, and Viognier to thrive.
2016 Podere La Pace 'Silvano' Maremma Toscana was one of the wines born in this privileged land. It is an elegant blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot bottled only in the best vintages.
On top of that, according to Wine Spectator, 2016 was a 96 Point Vintage that benefitted Cabernet Franc's growth significantly.
This wine was inspired as to tribute to the owner's father, Simone, a charismatic and authentic man. The wine shows "black olives, blue fruit, walnuts, and chocolate. It's medium-to-full-bodied with chewy tannins,"according to James Suckling.
The Silvano blend is known for being "deep and rich." It shows the class of a grand Tuscan Cabernet Franc-based through its unique bouquet and concentration of flavors.
Aging: 12 months in French oak barrels.
Tasting Notes: Black plums, wild blackberries, orange blossom, cedar, and sweet black cherries. Full-bodied, it shows velvety tannins at the entrance to the palate and a solid finish with a remarkable voluminous structure that blends well with the vertical progression.
At first glance, mixed floral and fruity scents give emotion to the notes of black plums, wild blackberries, orange blossom, cedar, and sweet black cherries. The authoritarian background recalls the international in the vines in the subtle herbaceous nuances. Full-bodied, it shows velvety tannins at the entrance to the palate and a solid finish with a remarkable voluminous structure that blends well with the vertical progression. A blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Better from 2022. ~95 Raffael Vecchione
A firm, attractive blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot that shows black olives, blue fruit, walnuts, and chocolate. It’s medium-to-full-bodied with chewy tannins. Drinkable now, but better with a little more time in the bottle. Drink or hold. ~92 James Suckling
