About the Wine

Chateau La Gaffeliere is steep in history, they're one of the oldest family owned vineyards dating back as far as the 1400s! The Estate didn't start producing wine until the 17th century. This Gothic styled Chateau had built a reputation as one of the finest producers in all of St-Emilion by the 18th century. The vineyards of this prestigious Chateau are planted to 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc. Chateau La Gaffeliere is one the premier producers in St-Emilion who's wines display great energy and structure capable of aging 30+ years!

Born in 1985, Clos is produced mainly from the young vines. The 2015 is blended using 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. It is a “wine for pleasure” that can be enjoyed in its youth along with 10 years of aging potential. La Clos is harvested and produced according to the high standards set forth by the first label: pruning, cover, de-leafing, green harvest, hand-picking. In the cellar, the same technical process sets the pace for successive stages of vinification. The wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels.

Tasting notes: The 2015 Clos La Gaffeliere is driven by ripe red fruits, bing cherry, cranberry, fresh rose peddle, smoked leather, tobacco leaf, espresso bean, and a hint of wet earth. The palate is full and rich, with silky smooth tannins and an impressively long finish. This wine is complex and filled with character.

Reviews

This is wound up nicely with brambly, fresh red and dark berries, as well as light mocha and Middle Eastern spices. The palate has punchy flavors delivered in suave, fine tannins and attractive full body. ~93JS
