About the Wine

If you want to experience Riojan culture at its best, Ollauri is the town you have to visit. Located in the heart of Rioja Alta, this region is home to some of the best-known wineries in Rioja, including Marqués de Teran.

This winery adopted its name from the Marques de Teran palace; however, this old and traditional palace has nothing to do with the winery. Marques de Teran has a modern and impressive architecture. In 2021, it was named as one of the 7 wonders of wine architecture in Spain by Guía Peñin.

80% of the surface of the winery is built into a hill. The winery uses gravity flow to receive and transport the grapes and wine in the lightest way possible. The commitment to quality and technology is of the highest magnitude. It was the first European winery to use geothermal energy as a source of energy; this allows for more conscious and sustainable viticulture.

This wine is bottled unfiltered, so expect some sediment. The winery insisted on capturing the essence of the fruit in the bottle, so the wine is fresh as possible.

Tasting Notes: Aromas of ripe fruit with subtle notes of tobacco and sweet spices. On the palate, it is intense but structured, ripe tannins that leave a long, plenty, and complex taste. Pair this wine with spicy dishes, red meats, and cheese.
