About the Wine

The family-owned, Château de Panigon extends its estate on more than 222 acres in AOC Médoc, situated around and near the Château, 53 hectares are currently planted and in production. Château produces two wines, both in Cru Bourgeois, Château de Panigon and Château Amour.

Since 2006, the daughter and the son-in-law of the owners, Corinne Leveilley Dadda and Georges Dadda have taken over the management of the Château. Together they're determined to produce red wines aimed at excellence in the purest respect of the Médoc tradition.

The desire of the new management, thanks to numerous investments, is part of an approach of modernity and quality, in order to take the best from the exceptional terroir. In 2016, Château de Panigon obtained the HVE label (High Environmental Value), a guarantee of quality and respect for the environment.

Since 2016 famous oenologist Eric Boissenot consults the estate. Today, Eric consults at forty of the 1855 Classified estates including Lafite, Margaux, Latour, Mouton Rothschild, Leoville Las Cases, and Ducru Beaucaillou.

The vineyards of Chateau de Panigon benefit from the Atlantic Ocean influences one side, the other the Gironde estuary. The two climate influences provide favorable weather conditions for the development and growth of healthy grapes. The vineyard sits atop gravel mounds that are worthy of being viewed as the best soils of the Medoc.

Aging: 12 months in 100% in French oak (33% new barrels).

Tasting Notes50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Petit Verdot. The nose is a complex mixture of cherry, raspberry, and subtle spices that blend into aromas of toasted brioche and tobacco leaf. The palate is very pleasant–with volume and roundness–it has a long, elegant structure that gives it added sharpness and character. This distinguished wine is very generous and graceful as well as coming from a vintage that will age well.

Reviews

A simply great nose of mint, dark fruit, and truffles is backed up by a multi-faceted palate showing floral and meaty tinges to the rounded, sleek cherries and raspberries on chalky tannins. ~95 Points, Decanter

Beautiful, fairly deep ruby. Profound nose marrying red and black fruits with a faintly graphite-like oaky tone. Ample, delicate, silky attack on the palate where aromatic expression is carried by freshness in this very promising, racy wine. ~91 Points, Gilbert & Gaillard.

With a history going back to the 18th century, this property has been in the same family since 1868. This wine is rich and full bodied, with a good balance between juicy black fruits and the firm structure. With good potential, this wine should be aged. Drink from 2022. ~90 Points, Wine Enthusiast.
