About the Wine

A friendship, a dream to create outstanding wines, years of experience in the wine industry, a lot of passion, and hard work, are some of the words that can begin to describe Patz & Hall.

The story began more than 40 years ago when winemaker James Hall and commercial director Donald Platz worked at the Flora Springs Winery and Vineyards.Their passion for making wine with traditional techniques from some elite vineyards led them to the creation of Platz & Hall. Currently, the owners are this pair of passionate friends plus their partners Anne Moses and Heather Patz.

James Hall, in addition to being the founder, is the winemaker of this modern winery. Since he was young, and thanks to the influence of his parents and his many trips to Europe, James began his passion for wine. His love for wine was so strong that he left his studies of Liberal Arts and transferred to one of the best viticulture universities in the world, the University of Davis.

James is passionate about wine and an expert and renowned winemaker; in fact, he was the one who designed the winery where all Patz & Hall wines are made. The winery is constantly modernized and avant-garde, but without neglecting the traditional way of making wine.

James Hall says: "After working with some of the finest vineyards in California for more than 30 years, I strive to remain true to my conviction that great wines are made in the vineyard."

2015 Patz & Hall Jenkins Ranch Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast is made from Pinot Noir, an iconic grape for Patz & Hall. The Pinot Noir is a quite capricious grape that, if it is vinified correctly, becomes a unique gem, no wonder it is one of the favorite grapes of savvy wine drinkers. Pinot Noir is sensitive, it needs special care both in the vineyard and in the winery. Patz & Hall have managed to turn this grape into an extraordinary wine and deliver us one of the best examples of Pinot Noir in the area!

Aging: 100% French Oak Barrels, 40% New, and 60% 1-2 years old.

Tasting Notes: 100% Pinot Noir. Aromas of blueberry, raspberry, dried orange peel, and hints of ocean spray notes. Soft tannins, well-integrated, rich, complex finish, great acidity, and freshness. Pair this wine with a grilled salmon, and a classic beef bourguignon.

Reviews

Robust and ripe, this wine is still developing—it is so densely packed and concentrated. Youthful flavors of baked plum and licorice meet a spicy backbone of sage and earth, with a slight touch of reduction on the nose. ~90 Wine Enthusiast.
