About the Wine

Since 1841, generations of the Costamagna family have dedicated their lives to Barolo production. The long story began in the XIX century with Francesco Costamagna, carried on in the 1960s by Claudia Ferraresi and Giorgio Locatelli, and for the last 30 years by their son Alessandro. Based in La Morra, Rocche dell’Annunziata: Rocche Costamagna consists of 34 acres of vineyards owned by the family for generations, with 5 of those hectares in the sub-zone named Rocche dell’Annunziata, one of the renowned Barolo Crus.

The wine is cultivated from Nebbiolo grapes grown in small vineyards of La Morra and Verduno. Maceration lasts about two weeks followed by 24 months in Slavonian oak barrels and at least one year in bottle. The 2016 Rocche Barolo is elegant and smooth, characterized for fruity and balsamic aromas. The tannins are balanced and well-integrated to the fruit.

Aging: 24 months in Slavonian oak barrels

Tasting notes: Red Wine. 100% Nebbiolo. The wine shows a deep garnet red. Rich and persistent bouquet with charming notes of plums, cherry, raspberry, violets. Balanced and elegant in the mouth with pleasant tannins. Long finish that reminds ripe red fruits. Excellent with roasted red meat, game, braised veal. It matches perfectly with truffle-based dishes and mature cheese.

Reviews

Complex aromas of cedar, tea, tile, and plums follow through to a medium body with round, creamy tannins and a savory finish. Really balanced already. Lovely young Barolo. Why wait? Drink or hold. ~93 James Suckling
