About the Wine
Vino Nobile translates to "noble wine." The wine's name is literally derived from its history of consumption where Kings, Queens, Popes, and Presidents would drink themselves under the table and confess their love for this Italian potion. This region was declared "the Kings of wines" in 1865 by Italian poet Francesco Redi.
Bindella otherwise known as Tenuta Vallocaia is an estate winery in the Montepulciano region of Tuscany. It was created by Rudolf ‘Rudi’ Bindella, a Swiss wine importer in 1984. Located in the Argiano Subzone in what they call a "little corner of paradise in Tuscany" with a focus on the wines of Montepulciano. Though not officially certified the vineyards are farmed with green sowing and no use of chemical compounds, herbicides, pesticides, and anti-fungal biotechnologies. The wines are pure and elegant not overdone like some of the other Vino Nobile on the market.
2017 was a great year for this region. Wine Spectator blessed this vintage with a 93-point review, stating that this year delivered "dense, concentrated reds."
Aging: 18 to 20 months in French oak barrels.
Tasting Notes: 100% Sangiovese. The bouquet is ample and enveloping, distinguished by notes of red and black berries, balsamic and spicy; the taste is savory, full, and structured with dense tannins. Pair this wine with red meats, roasts, games, and mature cheeses.
Luminous ruby red. Open-hearted and inviting on the nose, with notes of ripe cherries, red peaches, rose hips, and an elegant, spicy aftertaste. Very juicy and distinctive in its fruit on the palate, spans a beautiful arc, hearty and clear, with a long finish. ~93 Points, Falstaff.
Pure energy in the glass with notes reminiscent of cherries, lemon peel, and rosemary. Medium-full body, well-extracted tannins rigid at the moment, and a subtle and performing finish. Beauty and authenticity in this young red. Better from 2021.. ~93 Points, WinesCritic.com
Layers of sour cherries, cloves, nutmeg, and sundried tomatoes. It’s medium-to-full-bodied with firm, ultra-fine tannins and bright acidity. Lots of dried leaves and spices. Lively and driven. Fresh for the vintage. Better from 2021. ~92 Points, James Suckling.
Juicy cherry, raspberry, earth, and spice flavors are the hallmarks of this tightly knit red. Well-integrated and compact on the finish, with fine balance and length. Drink now through 2030. ~91 Points, Wine Spectator.
