It's important to recognize that Shafer is still a family operation and very much hands on. The total production at Shafer is significantly less than many of the large, well known commercial brands. You can taste the difference.
One Point Five takes its name from the term “a generation and a half,” coined by John and Doug Shafer to describe their long father-and-son
partnership. Since 1983 this family team has worked together to manage their Stags Leap District winery. A portion of this wine is from the Shafer estate 'Hillside' vineyard and a portion is from the nearby 'Borderline' vineyard.
Shafer Vineyards is a 30,000 case winery in Napa Valley’s Stags Leap District managed by the father and son team of John and Doug Shafer. The Shafer family owns and farms 200 acres of vineyards, sources for Shafer’s Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Malbec, Merlot, Syrah, and Petite Sirah.
This wine was aged 20 months in 100% new French oak. It's 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and has an ABV of 15.3%.
Tasting Notes: "deep garnet-purple colored with pronounced crème de cassis, blackberry pie and black forest cake notes with waft of bay leaves, cigar box, tar and smoked meats. The palate is full-bodied, firm and chewy with a taut, muscular mid-palate and an herb-lifted finish.” ~Wine Advocate
