About the Wine
Weingut Sighardt Donabaum, located in Spitz, was first mentioned in the 12th century and has been family-owned since 1833. Their 11 ha of vineyards, 80% of which are terraced vineyards on weather-beaten gneiss and granite (primary rock soil), are in the best locations of the region and are extremely difficult to work, but this wine is worth it. Each vineyard is influenced by a different micro-climate. Sighardt Donabaum has been awarded many prizes at numerous national and international events. They produce pure varietal correct wines that are a classic expression of place & variety.
The fully-ripened grapes, which mature on the steep south-facing hills of Spitzergraben, are harvested manually. The unique climate in this part of Wachau provide large temperature differences between day and night which creates a special aroma in this 2018 Sighardt Donabaum Weingarten Grüner Veltliner Wachau. The grapes are then de-stemmed and crushed, afterward fermented varietally, and carefully vinified. Vinification and storage are done exclusively in stainless steel tanks according to the latest findings in modern cellar technology.
Tasting Notes: White Wine. 100% Grüner Veltliner. This smart, varietal Grüner Veltliner is fruity with a Christmas pear, grapefruit, and pomegranate. Quite meaty on the palate, lots of pome fruit, lemon peel, and the typical herb piquancy. The vibrant acidity makes it extremely drinkable.
