About the Wine
Ready for a wine that punches well above its weight? The 2020 Monteabellon Crianza is your new go-to. This isn’t just another bottle from Ribera del Duero—it’s a wine that blends history, tradition, and innovation in every drop.
The García family, behind Bodegas Monteabellón, has been at this game for generations, perfecting their craft with each vintage. Founded in 2002 in Nava de Roa, a village steeped in winemaking history, the winery is a modern operation with an old soul. The land is littered with ancient stone presses and cellars that have been in use for centuries. The result? A wine that’s as rich in heritage as it is in flavor.
Aged for 14 months in oak barrels, this Crianza delivers everything you love about Ribera del Duero: deep, dark fruit, a subtle touch of spice, and that signature power that makes these wines stand out. But here’s the kicker—it won’t break the bank. For a wine that carries the weight of such a legendary region, it’s an incredible value.
But Monteabellón isn’t just about making amazing wine. They’re serious about sustainability, too. Forget the pesticides. The family’s committed to eco-friendly practices that protect the land—and make sure every bottle is as clean and pure as possible.
With 175 hectares of vineyards in one of Ribera del Duero’s most sought-after areas, Bodegas Monteabellón knows how to harness the unique terroir—rocky soils, varied altitudes, and perfect conditions for Tempranillo to thrive. This Crianza isn’t just a wine; it’s a snapshot of Ribera del Duero at its best—bold, balanced, and downright delicious.
It’s a no-brainer if you love the power and elegance of Ribera del Duero, but without the sticker shock of other big-name wines. It’s a true gem from a winery that mixes the best of the past with the innovation of the future. Stock up, and make this your go-to for any occasion. You’ll be reaching for another bottle, guaranteed.
Ribera del Duero is a paradise for wine lovers. Within this wine region, you’ll find some of the most unique, exceptional, south-after examples of Spanish wines.
Aging: 14 months in barrel. 70% French oak and 30% American oak.
Tasting Notes
100% Tempranillo. Intense cherry color, garnet rim. Intense aroma of candied fruit, sweet spices perfectly integrated with quality wood, making it elegant. Very tasty in the mouth, powerful and fruity, with ripe tannins.
Critical Reviews
This deep ruby-colored wine has a nose of cassis, butterscotch and clove. Satiny tannins play host to bright red-berry, vanilla, fennel-pollen and lavender flavors. A nice vein of acidity continues on the palate. ~91 Wine Enthusiast
A full-bodied and juicy Ribera del Duero with plenty of dark cherries, spiced mulberries and blueberries. Chewy and structured on the palate with a long, creamy finish. Excellent freshness here. Better in a year or two. ~91 James Suckling
