About the Wine
Amuse Bouche translates to entertainment for your mouth and this thriller certainly lives up to the estates' name. Made from a blend of Bordeaux and Rhone varieties there isn't a point on your palate that this wine won't tickle. 100 point superstar Heidi Barret is the fuel to the Vin Perdu Fire. The echoing of Heidi's name will send chills down the arms of the most esteemed Napa wine connoisseurs. Barrett has produced wine for some of the most prestigious Napa Valley Estates, including Screaming Eagle & Dalla Valle. She's produced a variety of 100 point wines and set a record for the highest price ever paid for a single bottle of wine. Heidi is undoubtedly seen as one of Napa's elite winemakers whose bottles consistently retail in triple and quadruple digits. Getting your hands on a Heidi Barrett wine under $100 a bottle is a near-impossible feat and borderline outrageous, that's what makes this wine so special. Heidi's talents are sure to impress and at this price point, it's a no-brainer.
In 2002, Heidi partnered with longtime friend John Schwartz to create the luxury wine brand, Amuse Bouche, a Pomerol-inspired Merlot from Napa Valley. Recognizing that the cult wine phenomenon had created an almost aspirational class structure among collectors, the partners decided to make this limited edition wine available to a much broader consumer base but with a collectors pedigree. The Vin Perdu bottling is intended to be indicative of each vintage, with the blend changing from year to year and made in limited quantities.
Tasting notes: 33% Cabernet Sauvignon with 12% Petit Verdot, 11% Cabernet Franc, 38% Syrah and 6% Merlot. Deep and dark purple. This wine hops out of the glass with big ripe dark fruits and just a sprinkle of cracked black pepper. On the palate, it is surprisingly agile and vibrant.
The 2018 Vin Perdu is a blend of 38% Syrah, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Petit Verdot, 11% Cabernet Franc and 6% Merlot. Deep garnet-purple in color, it comes skipping out of the glass with bright, cheery notes of baked black cherries, plum preserves, and blueberry pie with an undercurrent of freshly cracked black pepper, bacon, and underbrush with fragrant wafts of licorice and violets. Full-bodied, rich, and oh-so-seductive in the mouth, the palate reveals amazingly velvety tannins and tons of freshness, finishing with epic length and many, many layers. Delicious! ~96 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2018 Vin Perdu from Amuse Bouche is fabulous. Juicy and wonderfully expressive, the 2018 packs a serious punch while remaining very much medium in body, in the style of these wines. Succulent black cherry, plum, chocolate, lavender, spice, and leather are front and center. The 2018 is a joyous, inviting red to drink over the next handful of years. ~93 Antonio Galloni
