Reviews

The 2023 La Marzelle is undeniably sumptuous. Rich, deep and explosive, it has so much to offer. Ripe plum, pomegranate, spice, menthol and blood orange are some of the notes that infuse the palate as this flamboyant Saint-Émilion shows off its sexiness. Soft curves wrap it all together. This is an exceptional vintage for La Marzelle. ~93-95 AG-VM

Plenty of crunchy blackberry fruit with salt and chocolate. Medium body with an attractive center-palate and a juicy finish. I like the salty note at the end. ~93-94 JS

The 2023 La Marzelle has an understated bouquet with a subtle marine influence. Hints of oyster shell infuse the red fruit. This has a pleasing vivacity. The palate is medium-bodied with svelte tannins and a fine bead of acidity, quite pure with dark berry fruit laced with white pepper and allspice. This is a lovely Saint-Émilion from La Marzelle that should drink well for a decade and more. ~91-93 NM-VM

The 2023 Château La Marzelle is mostly Merlot yet includes 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, all of which will spend 16 months in a mix of new barrels and amphora. Ripe aromatics of plums, cassis, candied violets, and flowery incense, as well as ample spicy oak, all emerge on the nose, and it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a round, lush, opulent mouthfeel, ripe yet building tannins, and a good finish. It's rock solid, and this beauty has plenty of like. I think it will drink well in its youth, yet there's enough structure to allow it to evolve gracefully as well. Tasted multiple times with consistent results. ~90-92+ JD
