The Gaia vineyard, formerly known as Ashley's and currently part of the Bill Foley empire, is considered one of finest vineyards for Pinot Noir in California. Located in the far western part of Santa Barbara, the site is sandy loam hills, cold and windy. Aromas of raspberry and blueberries lead with crushed violets and baking spices. The wine was in barrel for eighteen months, and will continue to soften over the next five years. This vineyard serves up naturally low yields and delivers a masculine, meditative wine. Well rounded and balanced, this Pinot is delicious now, but will reward the patient collector over the next decade. This hefty Pinot pairs well with grilled and braised meats. Only 215 cases made.
