Seña Aconcagua Valley Chile was born from the vision of two of the most legendary names in the wine industry, Eduardo Chadwick (from Viña Errázuriz) and Robert Mondavi, with one goal in mind: “to reach the full potential of Chile’s wine country and to create a world-class Icon-level wine like none other in Chile.”
This wine is as iconic as them (literally). The first vintage in 1997, marked a milestone and path for making ultra-premium wines in Chile. Seña is recognized as Chile’s first icon wine.In 2015 vintage received a perfect 100-point score from James Suckling, who stated that “The Time for Chile is Now”.
And in 2018, Eduardo Chadwick was recognized Man of the Year by Decanter Magazine, for “devoting his life to the service of fine wine and recognized excellence in the wine world.”
Seña is the Spanish word for “signal”. They decided to name it like this as a “sign to the world that Chile was able to produce world-class wines, expressing the uniqueness of the Aconcagua Valley and changing the way the world thought about Chilean wine.”
Seña is carefully crafted with Bordeaux varietals but with a Chilean heart and soul. The vineyards are planted in the beautiful Aconcagua, one of Chile’s most exciting and highest-quality valleys where an ideal Mediterranean climate influenced by the Pacific Ocean's Humboldt Current's cooling effects creates perfect conditions for producing top red grapes. The +100 acres of vineyard are managed with sustainable biodynamic farming.
Everything about Seña is iconic. So, if you want to discover the greatness and class that Chile has to give, here it is.
Aging: 22 months in French oak barrels (78% new)
53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Malbec, 15% Carmenere, and 7% Petit Verdot
Complex, with a savory, spicy character, showing tobacco, salted plums, olives, black cherries, cassis, and a hint of white pepper on the nose, followed by a refined, savory, balsamic accent. A full-bodied Seña with juicy fruit chiseling into the tight, extremely fine-grained tannins. Long, bright, and still elegant from this warm vintage. 53% cabernet sauvignon, 25% malbec, 15% carmenere and 7% petit verdot. A wine with lots of harmonies now, but better to drink from 2025. ~98 James Suckling
The 2020 Seña is a blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Malbec, 15% Carmenere and 7% Petit Verdot (a little higher in search of acidity) from grapes harvested early, the second week of March, and fermented mostly in stainless steel and 10% in concrete eggs. It has a moderate 13.5% alcohol and good freshness. It's subtle and layered, not only fruit but with more spice; it has polished tannins and very integrated oak after 22 months in barrique, 78% new, and with 10% of the volume in large Stockinger barrels. The warmer years seem to be nicely managed so that it's not reflected in the ripeness but is more a matter of texture and quality of the tannins; in the warmer years, like 2017 or this 2019, the wines have a little more grip, but these are definitely finer than those from the 2017 vintage. This wine has intensity and complexity, with no mintiness or herbal notes; it's spicy and juicy, with energy and depth. It has structure, color, stuffing and acidity to develop nicely in bottle. ~97 Wine Advocate
The first version of Seña was in 1995 when Chilean wine was just venturing into this category of "icon" wines. Today he is a member of wine royalty in Chile, and one hundred percent of his own vineyards to the west of the Aconcagua Valley, about 40 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean, all under biodynamic management. This year's wine is 53% cabernet sauvignon, 25% Malbec, 15% Carmenere, and 7% petit verdot. And despite the warm vintage, this wine follows the path of recent years with its fresh character, rich in juicy red fruits. The texture is fine, but at the same time, it is dense, full of pungent, sharp tannins. It has just 13.5 alcohol, a fairly low number for the 2020 average, which speaks to this idea of fresh, tense, and vertical wines. ~97 Descorchados.
A lovely, juicy nose blends crushed blackberry and blueberry. Overtones of tar, cocoa, and iris lend a seductive edge. The palate, upon release now, is brimming with dark and youthful fruit, dense with young, bold, ripe tannins. Lovely, bright freshness peeps through, brightens the fruit and absolutely defines the finish. ~96 Falstaff
Authentic and regal, it shows a sensory profile of excellent intensity and polychromy. Notes of plums blend with citrus nuances of bergamot and lime. Green tea leaves blend with nuances of guarana and coriander. Full body, well-crafted velvety tannins and a finish of splendid shape and length. Better since 2025. ~96 WinesCritic.com

Complex and elegant, this premium wine from Puente Alto in Maipo Valley opens with aromas of blackberry, cherry and thyme. It's full bodied with a mineral character and energetic acidity. Honest strawberry and red-plum flavors combine on the juicy midpalate and linger throughout the finish with light notes of mint and tobacco. ~95 Wine Enthusiast.
