98 Points: 2019 Nesios Cabernet-Sangiovese Super Tuscan IGT

If you’ve ever heard of Super Tuscans, then you know these are some anarchic, revolutionary wines. The wines don’t follow the traditional winemaking rules in the conservative Tuscan region. Thanks to a group of rebel winemakers that decided to create these disruptive gems, Supertuscan wines are now considered some of the best wines in the world. These wines are rare and very special and sometimes can be very expensive too…

Today’s offer, the 98pt 2019 Nesios Cabernet-Sangiovese Super Tuscan IGT,is a truly stellar wine worthy of the Super Tuscan category, minus the $200 price tag.

This wine comes from Corte Medicea, a beautiful winery located in the south of Tuscany, where the vineyards are planted on picturesque rolling hills at an altitude of 400 meters and under clay and loam soils. Corte Medicea creates wines that express their vision of life as simple and pleasant but also intriguing and mysterious.

Andrea Bernardini, Corte Medicea's consultant, is a passionate winemaker who has hit numerous home runs. He earned his chops at Poggio Bonelli and Ruffino in Tuscany and trained in South Africa, Romania and Greece. After several years of experience, he is now a flying winemaker blending tradition and modern techniques to obtain high-quality wines with respect to the expression of the different grapes and terroir in which he works.

This blend of 50% Sangiovese and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, showcases beautiful notes of red and black fruits with a light herbal tinge to liven up the nose. On the palate, the wine is rich and very approachable.

This is our #1 value Super Tuscan of the year, and with 98 points, it's one of Luca Maroni’s “Best Wines of Italy.” A BHW Exclusive Import. Our advice? RUN! This bad boy will sell fast.
