About the Wine

"WRAITH is a trinity of Hundred Acre’s three single vineyard wines. It is a selection of barrels set aside in the cellar from those waiting to be blended someday into the single vineyard wines from Kayli Morgan, ARK or Few and Far Between. All very different and incredibly unique. The WRAITH shows all the beauty and personality of each individual vineyard and how they come together to develop even greater complexity.” ~ Jayson Woodbridge, Winemaker

Hundred Acre is one of those estates, where if you are in the know then you know. The quality of the wines made here is almost impossible to describe without using words like ethereal, sublime, and perfection. These highly coveted bottles regularly flirt with perfection. In fact, the ARK bottling has only ever scored outside of the 90s five times in its history, and those all received 100 points. There is only so much praise one place can receive, Hundred Acre no longer pursues critical ratings.

Jayson Woodbridge is the genius behind Hundred Acre since its inception in 1998. Imagine this: In only his second attempt, his wines earned a coveted spot on the Wine Spectator Top 100 list, and between 2002 and 2015, they notched up over twenty perfect 100-point scores from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.

2016 was an EPIC vintage for Napa Valley. This year was awarded 98 points by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, Vinous Media, and Wine Spectator. Vinous said,"At this stage, 2016 has the potential to be one of the finer vintages Napa Valley has seen since 2011."

Reviews

Even better, and a perfect wine from my viewpoint, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Wraith is a blend of estate vineyards and spends 40 months in new French oak. As with all of Woodbridge’s wines, it has an incredible sense of elegance and finesse paired with beautiful richness and depth. Deep ruby/purple, with cassis and kirsch fruits as well as stunning notes of tobacco, toast, and gravelly minerality, this is Cabernet Sauvignon at its most complex, seamless, and elegant. ~100 Jeb Dunnuck

Deep garnet colored, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Wraith soars out of the glass with Black Forest cake, Indian spices, tobacco leaf, dried Provence herbs and smoked meats notes, with touches of damp soil, black truffles and fragrant earth. Full-bodied, the palate is jam-packed with layer upon earthy layer of nuanced black fruits, framed by finely grained tannins, finishing with a lifted, bright red fruit burst. It's like a complex scent puzzle that only begins to make sense when knitted with the textures in the mouth and then long after the wine has been swallowed. Still incredibly youthful, give it another 5 years in the cellar, at least, and drink it over the next 40 years+. ~100 Wine Advocate
