About the Wine

"Concreto is a very important wine in my life. Starting to do it was a key step in our journey. With it, we manage to free ourselves from ties to deepen trust in the place where we farm." ~Sebastian Zuccardi

This wine comes from Finca Piedra Infinita located in the Paraje de Altamira in La Consulta, where the Zuccardi family is a pioneer; they arrived when there were no other vines planted. Little by little, they have shown through their wines the greatness of Altamira’s terroir. Sebastian Zuccardi says: “We got there by intuition, driven by the landscape. Cultivating this vineyard implies studying, working, and knowing each row, each stone. Exploring its enormous diversity to be able to interpret it through wine. An authentic mountain wine ”.

The surname Zuccardi has a well-deserved reputation in the wine industry worldwide. This family is not only responsible for producing some of the best Argentinian wines, but they also have the best wine tourism experience in the entire world: For the third consecutive year, Zuccardi Valle de Uco has been named "The Best Vineyard in the World" by the recognized magazine and digital media company, William Reed Business Medi.

This family business founded by engineer Alberto Zuccardi in 1963, has 6 different estates strategically placed in some of the best wine-growing areas of Mendoza. Today, it is directed by Sebastián Zuccardi, Alberto's grandson.

Sebastián is a visionary and innovative agronomist and winemaker who has made great strides and improvements since he took over the winery. Among other important achievements, he started and promoted a department of research and development that studies the terroir of the region, in order to better understand the land and improve the quality of their wines. Sebastian says: "We don’t look for perfect wines, but those that express the place, the region”.

The winery was built in 2013 and is a tribute to the majestic Andes mountains that surround it. Zuccardi Wines is sustainable in all aspects, from the vineyard to the cellar and even the architecture, where the construction is made with natural elements from the area. The wines are vinified in basins and amphoras allowing a more natural result and with the least possible human intervention.

Zuccardi Concreto is produced from a selection of calcareous soils sourced from their estates in Paraje Altamira.  It's a 100% Malbec wine with both fermentation and aging taking place in concrete tanks. Additionally, a portion of the wine undergoes fermentation with whole clusters.

Tasting Notes: 100% Malbec.

Reviews

Lots of purple fruits with blackberry and blueberry aromas, as well as cement and stone. Floral undertones, such as poppies. Medium to full body with firm tannins and a savory finish. Hints of dried, clove-like spice. No wood here. Drink now or hold. ~95 James Suckling

This Malbec comes from vineyards planted in 2009 next to the impressive Zuccardi winery, in Altamira. And it was the first wine that was vinified in that winery, in 2014. Without wood, and one hundred percent whole cluster, in concrete vessels, the 2020 harvest has been warm and here you can feel some of that, but what dominates is the sensation of verticality, of tension in a red that has a layer of ripe, succulent red fruits, but always with nerve; It never loses that tannic strength, that grip that gives energy, that gives shine. ~95 Descorchados

The 2020 Concreto Malbec also impressed me, because it comes from the warmest and most challenging vintage of recent years, yet the wine keeps its poise and depth. This is a selection from shallow, stony, and calcareous soils from Altamira, so the vines are quite sensitive to heat. If you encounter it on its own, it will feel fresh and superb; the problem is tasting it next to the 2021, which is what I did because there is an extra degree of freshness, precision, and clarity in the 2021, one of the finest vintages for this wine so far. ~94+ Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
