About the Wine

Wieninger is a family-owned winery located in the heart of Vienna, where the Wieningers craft exceptional wines through natural, biodynamic viticulture,with the highest standards of quality, respect for nature, and sustainability.

The vineyards are located across the Bisamberg and Nussberg hills, with the majestic Danube river flowing between them, each possessing its own unique soil composition and microclimate, that gives birth to a vibrant range of wines. Each bottle encapsulates the essence of the Vienna region.

Owner Fritz Wieninger is a true pioneer of modern Viennese winemaking. From a young age, Fritz embarked on a journey to explore new technologies and wine styles, gaining invaluable experience abroad. Today, with over 30 years of expertise, he’s in charge of every aspect of the game in the estate.

Fritz also played a vital role in reviving the Wiener Gemischter Satz DAC and became a member of the esteemed Viennese Traditional Wine Estates association, responsible for classifying the prestigious 1er Cru Erste Lagen vineyards of Vienna.

2019 Wieninger Riesling Vienna Hills comes from Bisamberg and Nussberg vineyards. Grown on the sandy loess soils of Bisamberg (65%) and the weathered shell-limestone terrain of Nussberg (35%), these grapes offer a symphony of delightful nuances. The Bisamberg gives it an open, apricot-toned character, while the Nussberg reveals mineral undertones and succulent peach flavors. Together, they create a magical wine.

2019 was a great yer for Austrian wines, Wine Spectator blessed this vintage with a 95 point review and said the year delivered "aromatic and balanced whites, with complexity and finesse."

Tasting Notes: 100% Riesling. Intense and concentrated on the nose but also fresh, pure, and citrusy. On the palate is pure and elegant, finessed and balanced dry Riesling full of tension. It also is ideal for pairing with spicy Asian cuisine.
