About the Wine

Amarone Della Valpolicella is a true gem. Robert Parker said, “One wine that shines particularly bright in the Veneto is the mighty Amarone, where “it is king,” made from only the best varietals in the region.”

When it comes to high-quality outstanding Amarone, the name Fasoli Gino should definitely be on your radar. This family winery dates back to 1925 when Amadio Fasoli planted his first parcels of vines in the Illasi valley. Today, the winery is managed by the 4th generation of the Fasoli family, brothers Amadio y Natalino Fasoli. Since its inception, this family’s main goal remains the same: “To only produce wines that we love drinking.”

In 1979, the winery was transformed into fully organic, and today, it's become organically certified, and they started introducing biodynamic practices to both the vineyard and the cellar. The vineyards are planted in de Valle d’Illasi, in the beautiful Valpolicella DOC, where the terroir couldn't be more perfect, with soils composed of sand and calcareous pebbles. The result is an amazing, elegant, deep Amarone Della Valpolicella.

This red blend from the Veneto region is one of the most unique and sought-after wine styles in the entire world. The process to produce this wine is complicated and delicate, which makes it a wine of impressive reputation. The grapes are dehydrated after being harvested, to later be fermented, and this is reflected in powerful, deep, and luscious wines! And just like James Suckling stated: "Amarone is a wine to drink with a lot of contemplation."

2016 was a great vintage for the Veneto region. Wine Spectator gave this year a 95-point review, and stated that "the 2016s come across as some of the most classic wines to emerge from the Veneto in some time," and confirmed that "the 2016s are balanced, elegant, fresh, and with the structure for many years of cellaring, and with time, they will be recognized as modern-day classics ."

Tasting Notes: 70% Corvina and Corvinone, 30% Rondinella. Vibrant red color with purple tints. The wine is full-bodied, tannic, and has aromas of ripe prunes, blackberries, cherry syrup, and spices such as cinnamon and cloves.

Reviews

~95 Luca Maroni "I Migliori Vini italiani"

There’s an easy-going feel to the nose, which offers currants and raisins, as well as bright rosehip notes. Medium to full-bodied with the same fresh feel on the palate. Then a wave of firm tannin kicks in, but the fruit surfs through to a long finish. Super clean. From organically grown grapes. Vegan. Give it a little time. Best from 2023.~93 James Suckling.

Shiny, rich ruby. Intense nose with ripe, dark fruit notes, elderberries and blackberries, and noble wood notes in the background. Hearty and gripping on the palate, open with substantial, firm tannins, ripe fruit. ~92 Falstaff.
