About the Wine

Step back in time and trace the rich history of Château Laffitte Carcasset. One of the oldest estates in the Saint-Estèphe appellation, its roots reach all the way back to 1759 when it was first registered as "Le Carcasset." In 1781, it found its way into the hands of Jean Laffitte, adding a touch of regal history to its name. The estate may have changed owners over the centuries, but the spirit of Laffitte remained, culminating in Pierre Rousseau's passionate stewardship in 2016.

The estate's coat of arms, adorned with a crown and surrounded by lions, symbolizes its noble origins and the unwavering strength and courage of those who tend to its vineyards. It's a tribute to the resilience and dedication that go into crafting every bottle of Château Laffitte Carcasset.

Pierre Rousseau is the heart and soul behind the revitalization of Château Laffitte Carcasset. His love for wine, sailing, and aviation led him to this magnificent estate in 2016. With dedication and passion, he oversaw the renovation of the vat room and cellars, restoring the stone manor house to its original splendor. His commitment to preserving the estate's heritage shines through in every bottle.

Nestled along the Gironde Estuary, Saint-Estèphe is where the magic happens. The region's mild and temperate climate, influenced by the nearby river, creates the perfect conditions for grape-growing. Surrounded by classified Great Growths, Laffitte Carcasset vineyards benefit from this unique microclimate.Saint-Estèphe’s unique terroir is a patchwork of gravelly rises, marl, clay-limestone, and sand, offering natural drainage and resilience to water stress. This diverse soil composition imparts distinct characteristics to the grapes, resulting in the exceptional wines of Château Laffitte Carcasset.

In 2020, Château Laffitte Carcasset took a bold step forward by creating a state-of-the-art vat room designed by architect Olivier Chadebost. This innovative space, featuring stainless-steel vats, is a testament to the estate's commitment to excellence and innovation while respecting tradition.

The aging process of Château Laffitte Carcasset wines takes place in its historical cellar, housed in the mezzanine of the manor house. This naturally cool space, in use since the 18th century, provides the perfect environment for the maturation of these exceptional wines.

Aging: 12 months in oak barrels, 45% of which are new.

Tasting Notes: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon 35% Merlot 5% Cabernet. The wine develops aromas of black fruits and red plums with cedar notes. Pleasant tannins in the mouth melted with a nice woody texture. It is a harmonious wine revealing a very beautiful concentration.

Reviews

The 2016 Chateau Laffitte Carcasset offers attractive cedar-infused black fruit on the nose, hints of red plum following just behind, and quite detailed with abundant fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin that exerts a gentle grip, a masculine Saint Estephe that is harmonious and focused, the finish testifying that just the right amount of oak was employed. Great job here! ~91-93 Wine Advocate

Situated on the gravel plateau of Saint-Estèphe, this estate has produced a richly structured wine with fine tannins and dense black fruits. The 70% Cabernet Sauvignon offers black-currant flavors and acidity plus plenty of firm tannins for aging. Drink the wine from 2024. ~92 Wine Enthusiast
