About the Wine

Wine enthusiasts who are unfamiliar with the wines of Friuli are missing out on some of the most striking and delicious wines in all of Italy. The Bordeaux varietal wines and blends stand tall next to their French counterparts. The white wines of Friuli represent some of the best white wines in the world and at stunning value.

Decanter said, "Ramato is for the wine lover who wants more from their Pinot Grigio, but don't go thinking it's just another rosé or orange wine."

Ramato is a wine style produced with Pinot Grigio. Its origins are rooted in the heart of Friuli but have recently gotten attention from winemakers around the world. Ramato comes from the word ‘rame’ which means ‘copper’ in Italian. This distinctive wine style is produced when Pinot Grigio grapes are crushed and their skins are left in contact with the juice, resulting in a tactile texture and a coppery color.

Visintini Winery is a family business that boasts a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages. The estate is located in the hills to the south of the Friuli Colli Orientali DOC area, bordering the DOC Collio area and the provinces of Udine and Gorizia.

The winery dates back to 1290, but it was in 1884 that great-grandfather Domenico Visintini purchased Gramogliano Castle. Over the centuries, the area surrounding the castle was destroyed and rebuilt several times. In 1915, the castle passed by succession to Umberto Visintini, who started the agricultural activity. In 1973, Umberto handed over the reins to his son Andrea, who continued with both the arable and vineyard activities. Today, the estate is run by Oliviero, Cinzia, and Palmira Visintini, who continue to carry on the tradition and honor their family's history.

The Visintini Winery operates on about 12 acres, mostly located in the Friuli Colli Orientali DOC area. The winery is entirely family-run, and the Visintini family feels obliged to respect traditions and appreciate the past while looking to the future.

The estate is a member of the Gramogliano Bio District. This means their vineyards and wines are 100% Sustainable and follow organic and biodynamic practices.

Tasting Notes: 100% Pinot Grigio. Aromas of pear and acacia honey with a dry, fresh and fruity flavor. This stunning, fresh white wine pairs lovely with grilled oily fish or with sauces, pasta, and gnocchi with tomato, basil, and eggplant.
