About the Wine

At their best, the red wines of Valpolicella are deeply complex with an intense flavor profile and long-lasting finish. This commanding profile drives demand for these incredibly delicious wines. Salvaterra makes true to form wine implementing extreme respect for nature, focusing on sustainable agricultural practices, and somehow manages to keep prices very affordable. Valpolicella Ripasso is like the little brother of Amarone, makes for a quaffable and rich anytime red.

Tenute SalvaTerra was born in Cengia, a hamlet of San Pietro in Cariano, in the heart of the classic Valpolicella. Villa Giona is one of the most beautiful Venetian residences of the late 15th century surrounded by cypresses, olive trees, centuries-old stone walls, and vineyards. The estate exists as an expansive verdant garden, with an excellent winery onsite.

The Legacy bottling pays homage to the generations of the family history. As such, the wine is bottled in a special anniversary bottle that would make an impressive gift. Check out BHW gift box service here.

Valpolicella is the over-reaching growing region that encompasses Amarone that produces deep red wines from Corvina. The Ripasso style is made using the dehydrated grape skins that were used in Amarone production. This adds complexity to the wine that was originally made from fresh grapes. If you love more fruit-forward wines, like red blends, Zinfandel, and wines that are easy to drink on their own or with a variety of foods, this is your jam.
Ripasso style wines are soft and easy to gulp.

Tasting NotesCorvina, Rondinella, Corvinone. A beautiful intense and deep ruby red color. Good structure and excellent longevity that opens to the nose with delicate hints of spices, ripe red fruit, and a slight floral appearance of violet. On the palate, it is complex and deep, harmonious despite its youth, with the typical notes of cherry and black currant that blend well with the complexity of the wine.
