About the Wine

Rutherford embodies the crème de la crème of Napa Valley. Located in the prestigious heart of Napa, this region is home to the most esteemed wineries known for producing wines that set the standard for excellence, with big names that include Inglenook, Quintessa, Beaulieu Vineyard, Scarecrow, and Cakebread. Founded in 2007, Ankh Winery proudly stands among these revered producers.

The name "Ankh" pays homage to the ancient Egyptian symbol for 'life', a symbol that was believed to grant the gift of eternal life to those bestowed with it. Just like its namesake, the 2016 Ankh Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon is crafted with the utmost care and devotion, striving to create a wine that stands the test of time and leaves a lasting impression.

At Ankh Wines, the main goal is set to produce only red wines, primarily Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. They believe that by concentrating on these two exceptional varietals, they can elevate the art of winemaking to a whole new level… and they did!

With exceptional care and attention to every single detail from the vineyard to the cellar and a clear focus on quality over quantity (with a production limited to fewer than 250 cases each year), this winery is quickly standing out and calling the attention of some of the most demanding wine lovers and critics.

For Ankh, the 2016 vintage represents a significant shift in style, a return to the roots of winemaking. This old-school Cabernet Sauvignon, farmed organically, embraces a traditional European approach with a lighter body, bright acidity, and an emphasis on red fruit. It's a wine that not only delights on its own but also pairs exquisitely with a wide array of cuisines.

2016 was not only an outstanding year for the winery, but also an epic vintage for Napa Valley that was awarded 98 points by Wine Spectator, Wine Advocate, and Vinous. The last one said, “The 2016s are aromatically expressive, nuanced and super-finessed. At this stage, 2016 has the potential to be one of the finer vintages Napa Valley has seen since 2011.”

Aging: 24 months in French Oak barrels.

Tasting Notes86% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. This wine is a complete adventure! With a dark purple color that stains the glass. The nose reveals black cherries, black currant, cocoa, and mint. The full-bodied taste offers sturdy tannins, nice acidity, and flavors of black currant, blackberries, dark chocolate, and oak. The finish lingers with black currant, minerals, and a touch of heat. The Merlot really shines throughout.
