About the Wine

Step into the world of Portuguese winemaking excellence with CARM–Casa Agrícola Roboredo Madeira. Nestled in the renowned lands of the Douro Superior, where history meets nature in a symphony of flavors, CARM Estate farms boast over 200 hectares of vineyards, 220 hectares of olive groves, and 60 hectares of almond plantations.

Picture this: rolling hillsides, ancient vineyards, and a dedication to excellence that spans generations. That's the essence of CARM.

What sets CARM apart? It's not just about the vines; it's about a commitment to quality and tradition. Since 1998, the Madeira family has been crafting terroir-driven wines and olive oils, staying true to their roots and utilizing only indigenous Douro grapes.

But there's more to the story. With vineyards steeped in the heritage of the Douro region, CARM embraces sustainable practices, with many vineyards certified organic and all wines proudly vegan-friendly.

Leading the charge is resident Winemaker António Ribeiro, a native son of the Douro, armed with a degree in Oenology from the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro. Since 2002, he's been the driving force behind the production, winemaking, and viticulture areas of the company.

And now, let's talk about the star of the show – the 2020 CARM Family Douro Reserva Tinto. This vibrant red is a testament to the Douro's rich terroir, boasting bold flavors of ripe berries, subtle spice, and a velvety smooth finish. It's the perfect companion for cozy nights in or celebratory gatherings with friends.

So, whether you're a seasoned wine enthusiast or just dipping your toes into the world of Portuguese wines, the 2020 CARM Family Douro Reserva Tinto is sure to impress.

Aging: 18 months in extra fine grain oak barrels (70% French oak (225L) and 30% American (500L))

Tasting Notes: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Touriga Francesa. The wine’s nose is very fresh and intense with notes of wild black fruits and black cherries balanced with seductive hints of licorice. Subtle notes of wood make the aroma more complex. In the mouth, the wine is fabulously concentrated, hot, showing firm tannins and a smooth texture as well as a very persistent finish that strongly displays the intensity of the wines of the Douro Superior. This wine pairs with meats, cheeses and, in general, Mediterranean cuisine.
