About the Wine

Vecchio Magazzino Doganale was established in 1871, in the same period as the Belle Époque. At this time, the "Amaro Importante Jefferson" was introduced, which was a natural amaro produced using ingredients that were carefully selected from all across the Calabrian region.

The bitter “Jefferson” was reborn thanks to Ivano Trombino, when he received a suitcase full of diaries, stories, and research carried out by his grandfather during his stay in Italy. Ivano was so shocked and moved by this diary that he decided to start his journey in Calabria with some friends. Over the years, the group of friends acquired the knowledge and practices to produce a special liqueur, linked to their personalities.

Washington Amaro is and infusion using a thermo-refrigerated technique 5/10°; the base of the infusion is Washington Orange (hence the name) from parcel 674 of Bisignano, which is mixed with bitter orange, sweet orange, lemon, and grapefruit. The bitter part is given by the Enula root and the Chiretta, mixed with coriander.

Drink this at room temperature or fresh from the fridge, (no freezer). The taste is bitter, elegant, and exciting. Perfect Amaro to drink by itself, or to mix it in classic cocktails.

11-12 months of preparation and marinating time.

20% White Cane Sugar.

Tasting Notes: It is obtained with various botanicals like Washington oranges, lemon, sweet orange, bitter orange, grapefruit, inula root, chiretta, and coriander. Aromas of spicy fruity, with aromatic oranges peppered with a selection of characterful garden herbs.
