About the Wine

Miro Tcholakov, the genius behind this amazing wine, began his journey in Bulgaria, a place with a centuries-old tradition of making wine. As a young boy, Miro learned the art of winemaking from his grandfather, and his fascination with this age-old craft only grew stronger over the years.

After completing his viticulture and enology studies at the Higher Institute of Agriculture in Plovdiv, Miro embarked on an international adventure. In 1990, he found himself in Napa Valley, California, where he joined the team at Dry Creek Vineyard as a harvest intern. Little did he know that this temporary position would pave the way for his illustrious winemaking career.

In 1998, Miro took on the role of Winemaker at Trentadue Winery, where he continues to create world-class, award-winning wines to this day. His dedication to winemaking excellence led him to produce his own wines, gaining recognition and acclaim from renowned critics like Robert Parker. His expertise even extended to consulting for the Bulgarian VINI wine brand, and in 2020, he acquired BulgarianWine.com to bring the flavors of Bulgaria to wine enthusiasts worldwide.

The Russian River Valley is a dream for winemakers. It boasts the ideal conditions for growing exceptional Pinot Noir. Its cool maritime climate, unique geology, and historical significance make it a standout region for this varietal. Robb Report Magazine says Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from RRV are "among some of the finest in the country and the world."

Miro Pinot Noir is sourced from the illustrious Windsor Oaks Vineyards located within Sonoma County's Chalk Hill, an appellation that’s renowned for its volcanic soils that lend a distinct chalky character to the wines. The grapes from this special vineyard contribute to the wine's exceptional depth and complexity.FYI: Other renowned wineries like Hartford Family Winery and William Selyem source fruit from this same vineyard.

2021 was an incredible vintage for Russian River Valley. Vinous Media blessed this year with a 97-point review, and said: "The 2021 Pinot Noirs are generally potent, brooding wines with dark fruit profiles and tons of textural depth."

Aging: 14 months in 35% French Oak barrels

Tasting Notes: 100% Pinot Noir. A fresh, medium-dark red color. The first impression is of dark cherry compote, a hint of cranberry, ripe strawberry, and pronounced rose petals aromas. With further aeration, the wine shows slight nuances of cola, new oak barrels-vanilla, toast, and a hint of forest floor and fresh earthiness. The mouthfeel opens with fresh ripe fruit and finishes with balanced acidity and soft tannin.

Reviews

Bright cherries and cranberries light up the aroma of this well-balanced, fruit-centered wine while ripe black cherries, cinnamon, and clove accents fill out the palate. Its moderate tannins and good fruit acidity keep it lively and fresh through the finish. ~92 Wine Enthusiast
